Medal of Honor was deserved

A recent Saturday edition of the Daily Herald had a "Your Views" letter titled "Medal Debased," which requires a response.

The first paragraph said the State of the Union speech was as expected and consisted of false claims. But as Patrick Moynihan said "Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not to his own facts." A quick online search would confirm that the facts about unemployment, higher wages, etc. are indeed true. In fact, record low unemployment for many groups - women, Hispanics, black youth, African Americans and on and on. Higher wages for lower income and middle income citizens. Lower taxes for many of all incomes.

Obviously the writer has never listened to Rush Limbaugh since she called him bigoted, homophobic, misogynistic, xenophobic and a hater who panders to right-wing zealots and is a standard-bearer for Donald Trump's bigotry and hatred. All of which is not true and is the sign of an uninformed left-wing zealot.

Rush has done great deal of philanthropic work such as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America. His annual Cure-A-Thon broadcast has raised more than $47 million to advance the organization's research and family-support programs. Also a long-term supporter of the Marine-Corps Law Enforcement Foundation and has helped to successfully channel millions to support the organization. And over $5 million raised for the Stephan Stiller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

Prior winners include Oprah Winfrey, TV talk show host; Tom Hanks. actor; Paul Harvey, radio talk show host; Bill Cosby, convicted rapist; etc. Rush is certainly as deserving as many people that have received the medal in the past.
