McConnell should allow vote on election access

RE: H. R. 1 (For the People Act of 2019)

Here's a bill that is languishing on Sen. McConnell's desk in the Senate since March 8, 2019, when it was passed by the House. It would address voter access, election integrity, election security, political spending, and ethics for the three branches of government. It's what we need in this critical election year of 2020, and Mitch McConnell, the Republican Senate Majority Leader, pledged that the bill was "not going to go anywhere in the Senate."

Trump has gotten away with manipulating our political system to serve his own interests. Trump has fired Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman in retribution for his testimony in the impeachment trials, which he gave to the House only after he received a lawfully executed subpoena from the House. The GOP Senate did not convict the president for his lawless actions with the Ukraine president which has emboldened him to believe he is above the law.

The ballot box is the last check and balance that still stands and it is within the power of the people to ensure that this sort of corruption never happens again and that our government works for all Americans.

Rep. Sean Casten supported and the U.S. House of Representatives has already passed, a bold, comprehensive set of anti-corruption, election security, and political reforms known as The For the People Act (also known as H. R. 1).

This bill will make sure our elected officials, including President Trump, are working for U.S. and not using our government to further their own personal interests. It is time for Mitch McConnell to bring this bill to the floor of the Senate for a vote.
