Wisconsin man critically injured in Lake County crash

A Kenosha, Wisconsin, man suffered critical injuries Monday when the van he was driving struck a tree and utility pole in Waukegan Township, Lake County sheriff's police said.

Authorities said the 52-year-old man was behind the wheel of a 2006 Ford Econoline traveling north on Green Bay Road at 12:50 p.m. Monday when it crossed into the southbound lanes as it approached Keith Avenue. The van then struck a curb, a tree and the pole before rolling on its side and stopping.

The first sheriff's deputies arrived on scene to find the man lying partially outside the van. It is unknown whether he was partially ejected in the crash or crawled out, sheriff's police said.

The driver was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
