How Medinah school celebrates Valentine's Day: With kindness
The second annual Afternoon of Kindness at Medinah Intermediate School turned the caring actions of students into lunches, blankets, bookmarks and care cards.
The event, instead of a Valentine's Day party, benefited organizations including DuPage PADS, Almost Home Foundation, Anderson Animal Shelter, Roselle Public Library, Project Linus and Phil's Friends.
Students packed and decorated lunch bags for people staying overnight at DuPage PADS shelters, made fleece blankets for animals or for children in need, created kindness bookmarks for Roselle library patrons and colored cards of hopeful messages for care packages sent out to cancer patients through the Roselle-based charity Phil's Friends.
Teachers who started the event last year say the Afternoon of Kindness is a way to bring students, teachers, parents, community members together to spread cheer.
