Seymour police officers charged with ghost employment

SEYMOUR, Ind. (AP) - A former southern Indiana police chief and one of his top officers face ghost employment and other charges for allegedly working other jobs while they were on duty, Indiana State Police said Wednesday.

Former Seymour Police Chief William Abbott and current Capt. Carl Lamb also were arrested Wednesday on official misconduct and theft charges, police said.

A four-month investigation determined Abbott while on-duty also was paid by Schneck Medical Center to schedule off-duty officers to provide security at the Seymour hospital, police said.

It also found Lamb, while on duty, was paid by K4 Security of Jeffersonville to coordinate and schedule off-duty officers for work in an Interstate 65 construction zone, police said. He also performed work for a training company he was part-owner of while on duty, police said.

Both men were released on bond from the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown. Online court records do not list attorneys for either man.

Abbott and Lamb have remained on administrative leave from the police department during the investigation that was conducted by state police.
