All of us can help to fight climate change

In response to the letter, "Use our technology to save planet," by Thomas Pavlick:

I agree that the changing environment needs to be dealt with in a more efficient way in society. Many things can be done to help this issue. First, we must elect government officials who vow to make changes that will be beneficial to the environment.

But, for now, we as a society can do little things to help improve the state of the environment. Many Americans do agree that the changing environment is a huge issue, but surprisingly, only two in 10 Americans make an effort to help the environment in their daily lives.

One way that an individual can help the environment is by picking up trash locally. A very simple way that everybody can participate in that helps the environment is by not being wasteful. For example, always turn lights off when you leave the room, and try to use a reusable water bottle.

The environment is in a crucial state right now, so we all need to make an effort, even if it's just a small one, to try to help. Many people take little things such as drinking water or showering for granted, but if we continue to treat the earth as we are right now, we could run out of water by the year 2040. We can't just continue to sit idly and watch the environment be destroyed anymore, we as a society must make change. We all have the ability to help.
