Neuqua Valley third, Naperville North fourth at Metea Valley invite
Naperville North senior Owen Jacobs is not planning on swimming competitively beyond this season.
Jacobs is putting his entire focus on leading the Huskies to a medal at the IHSA boys swimming meet at Evanston High School at the end of the month.
"I was working on (swimming in college) for a while, but I started doing club so late in my swimming career that it made it really not possible," Jacobs said.
But Jacobs was one of the Huskies who played a big role in Saturday's Mustang Invite at Metea Valley.
Plainfield captured first place in the 13-team event, finishing with 422.5 points. Oswego placed second with 356 points, Neuqua Valley took third (339), Naperville North was fourth (324) and host Metea Valley notched fifth (252). South Elgin claimed sixth place with 229, Waubonsie Valley finished seventh (220) and Benet earned eighth (212).
Neuqua Valley's Connor Boyle had a dominating showing in the meet. He finished first in a pair of events, winning the 100 and 200 freestyle.
Naperville North's Grant Bochenski took first in the 100 backstroke in a time of 52.07, while Cole McBride placed second in the diving portion with 366.60 points. Jacobs scored 17 points for the Huskies with a second-place effort in the 50 free and added a fourth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke.
Jacobs said the Huskies can use Saturday's fourth-place effort as a building block.
"I think we did pretty good, starting to feel the end of the season because our energy is growing and we're starting to get a lot better times," he said. "I think this will help our confidence."
Metea Valley coach Mark Jager noted the third-place effort by freshman Jaeddan Gamila in the 100 butterfly.
"(Jaeddan) had a really good performance," he said. "Our relays performed well, and overall as a team we performed well.
"For us, at most invitationals that we go to, we are in the middle of the pack. We're not super concerned where we finish at these type of invites, but we're really looking at this time of year is consistency and tuning up some of those last-minute things. We're pretty happy with how we did today."
