Bulls' center Carter chosen for Rising Stars game, but won't play

Bulls center Wendell Carter Jr. was chosen to participate in the Rising Stars game during NBA All-Star weekend. The contest features first- and second-year players, divided into U.S. natives against a team of international players.

Carter will not play, however, due to the sprained right ankle that has kept him out of action since Jan. 6. The league news release said Carter is not expected back until after the all-star break.

Bulls rookie Coby White was not selected for the game. He's currently the 12th-leading scorer among NBA rookies at 11.1 points per game.

The U.S. team will feature New Orleans rookie Zion Williamson as the injury replacement for Carter. Also on the roster are Atlanta's Trae Young, who will start in the actual All-Star Game; Chicago native Kendrick Nunn from Miami, Memphis' Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr., Charlotte's Devonte Graham, P.J. Washington and Miles Bridges, Golden State's Eric Paschall and Miami's Tyler Herro.

The World team roster includes Dallas' Luka Doncic, another All-Star Game starter; along with Phoenix's DeAndre Ayton, New York's R.J. Barrett, Oklahoma City's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Memphis' Brandon Clarke, Minnesota's Josh Okogie, Detroit's Svi Mykhailiuk, New Orleans' Nickeil Alexander-Walker, and Rui Hachimura and Mo Wagner from Washington.

The Rising Stars Game is Feb. 14 at the United Center, with the All-Star Game two days later.
