Girls bowling: Round Lake's Lauritzen, Antioch's Olson tops at NLCC tourney
Any way to break a tie would be helpful, but sharing the honors in the Northern Lake County Conference can be just as good.
Michele Lauritzen of Round Lake and Antioch's Alyssa Olson were co-champions with 1,165 scores over six games rolled at the conference meet held at Lakes Bowl in Round Lake on Friday.
Lauritzen had high games of 245 and 231 that carried her to the top spot.
"I didn't know that I would be in first, but I knew it would be close," Lauritzen said. "I felt like there was real good energy today and the team did really well."
Olson had consistent bowling through all her games with a high game of 204 and nothing lower than a 180. She had a tip from her dad, James, that she ended up in a tie when her last game ended.
"I did know that I was fourth after the fifth game," Olson said. "I knew it was close at the end and I really wasn't sure how close I was to first. I was trying to stay consistent and keep building off what I was getting. I do know (Lauritzen). She's a great girl."
Antioch won the tournament and the conference regular season as it rolled 5,597. Wauconda finished second (5,002), followed by Round Lake (4,923), Grayslake Central (4,754), Grayslake North (4,746), Lakes (4,556), Grant (4,515) and North Chicago (3,380).
"We did good and I'm proud of my girls," Antioch coach Phil Lindberg said. "My kids bowled together. They just like to win and they do what I ask. They make adjustments and we've been doing better on our spare shooting. All around its been a good year."
The other Sequoits' bowlers were Lynn Michalec (1,162), Allyssa Tanner (1,137), Allison Kane (1,122) and Ashley Lubkeman (1,011).
Aubrey Kiddlle of Lakes was fourth (1,157), Wauconda's Jasmine McKeel fifth (1,140), and Grayslake North's Sydney Swiercz seventh (1,123).
