District 214 official reappointed to Illinois Community College Board

Lazaro Lopez, associate superintendent for teaching and learning in Northwest Suburban High School District 214, has been reappointed chairman of the Illinois Community College Board by Gov. J.B. Pritzker.

During almost five years as board chairman, Lopez led the implementation of annual board goals centered on smoothing the transition for students into and through postsecondary education, strengthening workforce development through closer ties between the community college system and business and industry, and increasing data transparency to better inform policy decisions, officials said.

The state coordinating board has statutory responsibility for administering state and federal grants to community college districts and adult education providers, and managing high school equivalency testing for Illinois.

His term expires June 30, 2025.
