Barrington's Thompson tallies school-record 36 points

Four-year starter Taylor Thompson enjoyed the biggest scoring game in Barrington girls basketball history on Tuesday night and it helped lead the Fillies to a 65-49 win at Conant (7-13, 2-5).

Thompson's career-high 36 points broke the previous Fillies single-game record of 35 which had been held Lindsay Richards, Ashley Berggren and Erica Berggren.

Thompson, a Misouri-St. Louis recruit, also had 11 rebounds and 3 steals.

"I was happy for Taylor in breaking the record," said Barrington coach Babbi Barreiro, whose team improved to 17-8 and 6-1 in the Mid-Suburban West. "We have been fortunate to have some pretty talented kids come through Barrington and her breaking that record is a reflection of her hard work this season and her teammates doing a great job of getting her the ball.

"She has had one heck of a season so far and I am happy for her."

Barreiro was pleased with the overall performance of her team.

"I thought the kids really worked well as a unit to eventually pull away from Conant which really came out tough," she said. "The kids shared the ball well and I thought made good decisions.

"Michaela Goetze had a great game at both ends of the floor. I thought she keyed our run at the end of the third quarter."

Elk Grove 43, Wheeling 29: Alyssa Trausch (12 points), Megan Murray (11) and Lili Duckmann (9) led host Elk Grove (14-9), 3-5) in the MSL East win.

Chloe Drozdz scored a game-high 22 points for Wheeling (4-21, 0-8).

Christian Liberty 58, Willows Academy 22: Host Christian Liberty (22-3) won the nonconference game behind Melissa Castro (19 points, five 3-pointers), Megan Ng (13 points) and Audrey Law (11).
