Black history traveling museum visits Oakton Jan. 30

The True Black History Traveling Museum will be at the Oakton Community College Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, in Room 1606.

The museum consists of more than 1,000 artifacts and original documents dating from the late 1700s to the 21st century. Historic figures including Booker T. Washington, Mary McLeod Bethune, George Washington Carver, Rosa Parks, Frederick Douglass, Angela Davis and President Barack Obama are highlighted. A lecture about the museum is scheduled at 12:30 p.m., in Room 1608, at the Des Plaines campus.

This free public event celebrating Black History Month is hosted by Oakton's Center for Campus Inclusion and Diversity and the Black History and Culture Committee.
