Lions safer in zoos than in the wild

It's equally tragic and unsettling that two lions have recently died at Brookfield Zoo. However, they are still safer in zoos than in their native homelands. In nations like Zimbabwe and even South Africa these iconic and majestic mammals are still being massacred by vicious trophy hunters and poachers.

They are either shot or poisoned to death by malevolent reprobates who also brutally remove their heads and paws for illegal profit. Some government officials do not even care about the well-being and survival of the lion population.

The staff and volunteers at Brookfield Zoo deeply respect, appreciate and revere lions. It's unfortunate that so many different wildlife species are direly endangered in their indigenous habitats as a result of human cruelty and greed.
