Chicagoland impressive Lunar New Year Celebration to Support of the Local Food Pantry

Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Commissioner Josina Morita hosted another Annual Lunar New Year fundraiser to benefit the Niles Township Food Pantry Foundation on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at the Oakton Community Center Skokie.

The Chinese New Year, also called and commonly known as the Lunar New Year. It isn't just celebrated in China and around other countries celebrating all over the world. Skokie is a kind of international village where everyone having display and perform their own culture and traditions. More than 100 languages are spoken in Skokie.

The purpose of this Celebration is to promote and join a better understanding between Skokie and its neighbor's town residents of different ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds and Support the Local Food Pantry.

Actual the Chinese New Year begins on Saturday, Jan. 25 but several places the celebration started week early and it is the Year of the Rat.

The Community center was filled with bright red and beautiful gold decorations, martial arts, drumming and colorful traditions such as lion and dragon dances. The festival includes l with live entertainment, folk arts, and more than 20 food booths. The traditional dances perform by Xilin North Shore Chinese School Dancers.

This is great celebration bringing families and communities together for food, fellowship, games, dancing, and more for support and raise money for the Niles Township Food Pantry Foundation, said by Josina Morita the Organizer of the event.

Attendees enjoyed activities, costumes, dance, music and food.

Several elected officials include Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, Representative Jennifer Gong-Gershowitz ,Kris Sadur, Supervisor Marilyn Glazer, Food Pantry Manager Tony Araque, Minal Desai, Cynthia Cobbs, Bonnie Kahn Ognisanti, Jesse Reyes and many others.
