Library offers Teen Job Fair, volunteer opportunities

Teens interested in finding a job or volunteering have exciting opportunities coming up at the Schaumburg Township District Library.

Those looking for extra cash or interviewing tips won't want to miss the annual Teen Job Fair from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, in the Rasmussen Room on the library's second floor.

During this popular event, teens ages 15 and older can meet with a variety of potential employers looking for part-time and seasonal staff. No registration is required; simply drop in anytime.

In addition to the Schaumburg Library, the following employers will be represented: Bear McDonald's, HE Park District, Village of Hoffman Estates, Hoffman Estates Chamber of Commerce, Carpenters Union, Main Event, Hanover Park Park District, Schaumburg Park District, Northwest Special Recreation Association, Goodwill, Pump It Up, SportsKids Inc., Arlington International Racecourse, Schaumburg Boomers, Aqua-Guard Management, Inc., and Harper College.

"The Teen Job Fair has been a continually successful and beneficial program for the library, local businesses and especially teens seeking their first job," said Teen Place Manager Joe Marcantonio.

Teens looking for volunteer positions are welcome to use their time and talents to help others by volunteering at the library, which earns two service hours per shift.

Students ages 12-19 can register to volunteer from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturdays, Feb. 15-March 21, in Teen Place. Registration opens Feb. 1 and takes place online at ShaumburgLibrary.org or by calling (847) 923-3240.

Projects benefit the library and community. To receive service hours, bring any paperwork that needs to be completed by a library employee.

Students who will be entering grades seven-11 this summer can find out about the library's Volunteer Squad by coming to the Volunteer Squad FAQ from 11 a.m.to noon Saturday, March 7, or 7-8 p.m. Monday, March 9. Both take place in the Rasmussen North Room on the library's second floor.

Our Volunteer Squad assists library staff in making the Sumer Challenge a success. During the FAQ, participants will find out more about the summer challenge and how squad members help with registration and more during this annual event.

Information about the Job Fair and volunteer opportunities, along with numerous programs and clubs, can be found in the teen section of the library's Guide and online at SchaumburgLibrary.org.

Teens who have questions about any of the opportunities mentioned above are welcome to call the library's Teen Desk at (847) 923-3240.
