Chicago Fire adds striker Beric

The Chicago Fire on Saturday celebrated the start of preseason training by announcing the transfer of Slovenian striker Robert Beric from Saint Etienne in France.

Beric, 28, will be a designated player. He has a two-year contract with a club option for the 2022 season.

"I'm very happy to be in Chicago, and I think this is going to be a great new era for the Fire," Beric said in a club news release. "I am looking forward to getting to work with my new teammates and starting the new season."

The Fire opens the season March 1 at Seattle.
