Carol Stream to honor Citizens of the Year

The Carol Stream Citizen of the Year Committee has announced its nominees for its Citizen of the Year Awards.

Nominees are residents who have volunteered their time in one or more community groups during the past year. One female and one male will receive the award.

Here's a look at the nominees and the organizations that nominated them:

Female Citizen of the Year: Dawn Janke, Our Savior Lutheran Church; Margaret Leabru, Carol Stream Historical Society; Laura Vondrasek, Carol Stream Rotary Club; and Yoly Musni, Filipino American Association of Carol Stream.

Male Citizen of the Year: Clem Malinowski, Carol Stream Parks Foundation; Jack Moran, St. Luke Parish; Alex Roy, Carol Stream Police Department volunteer; and Bill Pickens, Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Special Citizen of the Year nominees are residents who have volunteered for five straight years in the community. One female and one male will receive the award.

The female nominees are Vicki Collier, St. Luke Parish; and Carol Floren, Our Savior Lutheran Church. The male nominees are Jim Benzin, Carol Stream Park District; and Jason Miller, Carol Stream Youth Sports.

The committee also presents a Judges Recognition Award to a person living outside of Carol Stream who has provided exemplary volunteer service in the village. This year, the awards will be presented to: Marina Mattingly, nominated by the Carol Stream Rotary Club, and Kim and Jeff Wall, nominated by Lutheran Church of the Master.

The awards will be presented at a banquet on Feb. 1 at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites, 150 S. Gary Ave., Carol Stream. Tickets are $40.
