King's career-best 26 pace Stevenson win
Avery King scored a career-high 26 points, and Stevenson's girls basketball team defeated host Waukegan 66-43 in North Suburban Conference action on Saturday for its third win in a row.
King, a four-year varsity player who recently surpassed 1,000 career points, made 10 shots from the floor, including three 3-pointers, and was 3 of 3 from the foul line.
Simone Sawyer added 17 points for Stevenson (15-6, 3-3). Nikki Ware and Ava Bardic each had 8 points for the Patriots.
Lake Zurich 47, Warren 34: Baylie Parks scored 13 points, Alayna Soukup added 11, and the visiting Bears won the North Suburban Conference game.
Ella Gilbertson had 9 points for Lake Zurich (10-6, 4-2).
Warren fell to 7-11 and 1-5 in the NSC.
Libertyville 49, Mundelein 18: Margaret Buchert scored a game-high 11 points and dished out 6 assists, as the host Wildcats won the North Suburban Conference matinee.
Lauren Huber (4 steals) and Kristina Kotzan added 8 and 7 points, respectively, for Libertyville (13-4, 5-1), which had nine players score.
"We got a lot of production from all of our players today," Wildcats coach Greg Pedersen said.
Morgan Frank led Mundelein (3-14, 1-5) with 10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 blocks and 3 steals.
Lake Forest 51, Zion-Benton 41: Halle Douglass had 25 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists, and the Scouts improved to 16-3 and 5-1 in the North Suburban Conference.
Finola Summerville added 9 points for Lake Forest.
Antioch 47, Lakes 29: On Friday night, the visiting Sequoits won the rivalry game to improve to 7-9 and 3-2 in the Northern Lake County Conference.
Rosie Tekampe had 18 points and 6 rebounds for Lakes (2-13, 1-4).
"It was high school basketball at its finest - rivalry game, Royal Rush [Lakes student section], many fans, school band, etc.," Eagles coach Brian Phelan said. "What a great environment we all played in. [Antioch's] bigs were a tough cover for us."
Grant 37, Grayslake North 35: On Friday night, the visiting Bulldogs remained undefeated in the Northern Lake County Conference, as Kylie Whyte had 14 points, 12 rebounds, 7 steals and 3 blocks.
Grant (11-7, 5-0) also got strong contributions from Cora Hughs (8 points, 5 rebounds), MaCalyn Flores (7 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals) and Katelyn Dupree (7 points, 3 blocks).
Grayslake North fell to 7-11 and 2-3 in the NLCC.
Carmel 58, Joliet Catholic 48: On Friday night, the visiting Corsairs improved to 13-3 and 2-1 in the East Suburban Catholic Conference.
The Corsairs have their home opener Wednesday night against eighth-ranked Marist.
