Photo showed abuse

I have read the Daily Herald daily for years, and it is an exceptional paper. It has a very talented group of writers, staff and delivery team. The paper is never late. But on Dec. 26, an article in Neighbor & Classifieds "2019 in review - Photos of the Year" with memorable images of the year selected by Daily Herald photographers showed a very disturbing picture of a large German shepherdtype dog running in a Banana Derby at the McHenry County fair with a Capuchin monkey tethered to his back holding on with a look of terror on its face.

I am not sure if you are aware that this is animal abuse and animal exploitation for human entertainment. If you have ever seen in person this abusive entertainment where these terrified and traumatized monkeys are forcibIy tied/chained to backs of dogs and brought out to large cheering crowds to race, it is abusive, emotionally disturbing and inhumane. Animal rights groups have been fighting to have this abuse outlawed.

I am hoping that the Daily Herald does not condone animal abuse and mistreatment and that they are more selective when displaying pictures in their paper. This is a picture of abuse and exploitation of a traumatized wild animal.

There are so many beautiful pictures that appeared in your paper throughout the year. I am disturbed that this picture of abuse was chosen as memorable. Please be more sensitive when displaying photos to readers who are disturbed by any type of animal abuse.
