Burlington Central's Wells earns MVP honor

Elana Wells of Burlington Central is this week's Daily Herald MVP for girls basketball.

Elana Wells, Burlington Central: This 5-foot-7 junior guard scored her 1,000th point while winning MVP honors as Burlington Central won the Rockford Boylan tournament title. The Rockets went 4-0 at the tournament and Wells scored 13, 27, 24 and 14 points in the four wins, and she also had 5 assists against Dakota, 7 steals vs. Boylan and 13 rebounds in wins over Boylan and McHenry. Wells also scored a game-high 15 points in a FVC victory over Huntley.

Lauren Cohen, Glenbard South: The junior guard was named Most Outstanding Player at the Wheaton North Bill Neibch Falcon Classic, and the Raiders, the tournament's No. 7 seed, won the championship. Cohen led the team with 50 points over the four-game tournament and added 17 rebounds, 13 assists and 10 steals.

Jazzlyn Linbo, Grant: Before hitting her head on the court and missing the Bulldogs' final game of their own holiday tournament, the 6-foot-2 junior post was playing maybe the best basketball of her three-year varsity career. She scored 30 points, shooting 6 of 8 from the arc, in a 70-43 win over North Chicago. Her 26 points (4 of 6 from the arc) led the way in a 67-66 victory over Warren.

Megan Murray, Elk Grove: Murray scored a game-high 22 points in a nonconference win over Willowbrook and then helped lead the Grens to second place at the Bill Neibch Falcon Classic. The all-tourney selection netted double figures in all four games, including 18 against Jacobs.
