CFC programs focus on biodiversity

Citizens for Conservation will launch its 2020 Community Education Program Series with "One Drop at a Time" at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18.

Landscape architect Marcus de la fleur will discuss sustainable stormwater management and beneficial landscaping practices in yards. He is the owner of the Chicago design and consulting firm de la fleur LLC, and has contributed to the design and management of multiple sustainable projects, including LEED-registered or certified projects.

The annual program series, which focuses on creating habitat and earth-friendly yard practices, will also feature:

• The Battle for Our Wetlands Saturday, Feb. 22. CFC restoration manager Kevin Scheiwiller will discuss how to use warrior sedges to combat wetland invasives and how to rebuild a functioning sedge meadow.

• Vanishing Edens: Biodiversity in a Changing World Saturday, March 14. Author Michael Jeffords will discuss how current pressures affect the biodiversity of plants, pollinators and other wildlife. Jeffords is co-author of Exploring Nature in Illinois: A Field Guide to the Prairie State.

• Living with Beavers; Saturday April 18. Chris Anchor, senior wildlife biologist for the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, will discuss his research on beavers in the area.

All programs will be held at the Barrington Village Hall, 200 S. Hough St., Barrington. Free parking is available in the lot behind the building. Programs begin at 10 a.m.; coffee, conversation and handouts will be available at 9:30 a.m.
