Man sent to prison for beating estranged wife in Aurora
A Chicago man received a six-year sentence Friday for beating his estranged wife at her Aurora home.
Kane County Judge Charles E. Peterson handed down the sentence to 40-year-old Tavares Sanders, of the 2700 block of West Division Street. The judge had convicted Sanders, who had waived his right to a jury trial, Oct. 1 on felony charges of aggravated domestic battery with great bodily harm and domestic battery.
Prosecutors said that on Jan. 25 and Jan. 26, Sanders accused the victim of infidelity and hit her. He then slammed her head into a wall and punched her in the eye, blackening it.
When the victim threatened to call police, Sanders fled.
The victim then followed Sanders, who again attacked her and threw her to the sidewalk, resulting in a severe gash to her forehead.
At the time of the attack, Sanders was on parole for a 2015 domestic battery conviction.
