Fire guts Naperville house undergoing demolition

A single-story house being demolished near downtown Naperville was gutted by a late-night fire Monday.

Naperville Fire Department officials said they were called about the blaze on the 100 block of West Fifth Avenue just before midnight.

Callers reported seeing flames from the demolished house at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Eagle Street.

Firefighters had the blaze under control within 15 minutes of arrival.

No injuries were reported. The house was vacant because it was being demolished.

Fire officials said the cause was deemed accidental and that the blaze started in the house's fireplace that had not yet been demolished.

The area around the demolition site was re-secured with a construction safety fence after the fire was completely extinguished, fire officials said.
