Ovcina joins Ice Miller
Ice Miller announced the hiring of Amir Ovcina, of counsel in the Firm's Business Services Group.
He regularly counsels clients, including private equity funds and portfolio companies, in the areas of acquisitions, dispositions, offers of equity and debt security, strategic partnerships and joint ventures. Ovcina works closely with his clients' business and legal teams to resolve complex contractual issues and negotiate terms and conditions into final definitive agreements. He negotiates and drafts various strategic transaction and investment documents. He also handles legal due diligence, commercial contracts and corporate governance matters.
Amir's previous in-house experience at one of the nation's largest health insurers provides him with a deep understanding of the many issues and challenges that clients, in particular in-house legal teams, face on a daily basis. His in-house experience allows him to provide targeted and practical advice for his clients when resolving complex legal issues. While Amir was in-house, he represented the corporate acquisition team on due diligence, agreement negotiations and regulatory approvals related to the acquisition and divestiture of health and life insurance companies. He also managed legal review and analysis on the impact of extraterritorial laws and regulations before coordinating implementation of benefits and reporting.
Amir later practiced within the Insurance and Financial Services group at an international firm before joining Ice Miller.
"We are very fortunate to have Amir on our team," said Steve Humke, chief managing partner of Ice Miller. "Not only does he have extensive experience in corporate matters and the insurance industry, but he also understands our clients' needs from his time as in-house counsel."
