Elmhurst Symphony to start 2020 with two concerts
The Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Music Director and Conductor Stephen Alltop, continues its 2019-20 season next month with two opportunities to hear concerts of favorites.
The orchestra will perform at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at Mayslake Peabody Estate, 1717 W. 31st St. in Oak Brook, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill Road in Elmhurst.
"Mozart Magic" features instrumentalists from the symphony who will play Mozart's Serenade in C minor, Divertimento in F major, Serenade in E-flat major, and the composer's "Ave verum corpus" presented by the Symphony strings in a surround-sound performance. Also on the program is Igor Stravinsky's "Octet."
Tours of the Mayslake mansion will be available for $5 from 1 to 2 p.m. before the concert.
At the Jan. 26 concert at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, a bake sale to benefit the Youth Outreach programs of the Elmhurst Symphony will be held during intermission.
Ted Hatmaker will lead a "Behind the Music Stand" discussion at 1:45 p.m. Jan. 26 before the concert.
Both venues have accessible parking and facilities; parking is free.
Single concert tickets range from $12 to $32. Group and family rates also are available.
The 59th season of the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra is made possible in part by grants from the City of Elmhurst, the Illinois Arts Council, the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation, and WDCB 90.9-FM, Chicago's Home for Jazz.
