Liberty Theatre demolition request deferred

Discussion of a request to demolish the Liberty Theatre in downtown Libertyville has been deferred to Feb. 11. The Libertyville village board on Tuesday was to have considered a report by the advisory historic preservation commission, which recommended against a required certificate of appropriateness to allow for the demolition of the building at 708 N. Milwaukee Ave. The item had been deferred from Nov. 26 but again was removed from the agenda at the request of the Rhyan family, which has owned the building for more than 50 years. Village officials said the petitioner is still exploring potential alternative uses for the property.
