Dossier confusion

I read Byron York's recent column about the Ukraine probe twice, and still can't understand his point. I'm assuming he is supporting the Republican talking point that the DNC-funded Steele Dossier was the origin of the FBI's probe into Russian interference in the 2016 campaign, the implication being the Democrat's started the investigation.

This is not true. The investigation started when an Australian diplomat reported that George Papadopoulos bragged to him that the Russians had dirt on Hillary Clinton. This information was passed along to the FBI, and the investigation was started. Nor is it true that the dossier was used as the main source for the FISA warrant request to start the investigation.

Now, as to what York thinks all this has to do with the president's July 25 phone call with Ukraine's president I cannot say. This is immaterial to York's mission, however, which is to confuse voters about what is true, and what's not.
