Reindeer Housewalk Dec. 6 features five Elmhurst homes

Five homes decorated for the holidays will be featured when the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Foundation holds its 43rd annual Reindeer Route Housewalk on Friday, Dec. 6.

A portion of proceeds will benefit the Teen Volunteer Health Profession Scholarship fund, which also includes the Marilyn A. Graber Teen Scholarship.

The scholarships are for teen volunteers at the hospital interested in pursuing a career in health care.

The Housewalk, with two sessions - 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. - features five homes decorated by local florists. The homes and florists are:

• 994 S. Mitchell Ave., Pots With Purpose;

• 478 Washington St., Blossoms and Branches;

• 336 W. Eggleston Ave., Phillip's Flowers;

• 179 S. Kenilworth Ave., Carousel Flowers/Shamrock Garden Florist;

• 142 S. Kenmore Ave., The Uptown Shop and Blossoms of Lombard.

Tickets are $30 in advance and can be purchased through 3 p.m. on Dec. 5 at the EMH Foundation office at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road, or online at www.emhfoundation.org/events.

On the day of the Housewalk, tickets will be available for $40 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Guaranteed Rate, 115 W. Adelaide St. in Elmhurst. Tickets will not be available for purchase at the featured homes on the day of the event.

The foundation also is seeking donations (to be dropped off at Housewalk homes) to support the Healing Arts and Family Support Program developed by the Planetree Caring and Healing Environment committee at Elmhurst Hospital.

This program provides each main inpatient family room at the hospital and the Nancy W. Knowles Cancer Center waiting rooms with a variety of art and recreation materials to help patients and family members decrease stress with healing activities and distractions of art supplies, books and small games.

Supplies needed include children's coloring books, adult coloring books, Crayons (packs of 4 or 8), coloring pencils (packs of 4 or 8), playing cards (regular cards, Crazy Eights, picture match and other similar games), adult and children's books, crossword puzzles, word searches, Sudoku and activity books.
