Woman dies after jumping from minivan on Jane Addams Tollway

A West Virginia woman died after jumping from a minivan on the Jane Addams Tollway in the Rosemont area Wednesday, police said.

The Illinois State Police announced Thursday evening they are investigating the death of Emily Newton, 27 of Barboursville.

Early details revealed Newton was riding as a passenger in a Chevrolet Pacifica shortly before 3 p.m. when she opened the door and jumped from the minivan. She suffered head trauma from the impact but wasn't hit by other vehicles, a news release said.

She died about noon Thursday at a hospital.
