Register for Wheeling Orchesis' children's workshop

In what has become a holiday tradition, Wheeling High School Orchesis invites children ages 3 to 13 to participate in its 24th annual dance performance workshop and to perform in the Showcase concert with Orchesis members.

The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 14. Children get to choose an afternoon workshop from 1 to 3:20 p.m., then perform on stage with Orchesis at 4 p.m. To register, parents will find a link on the home page of the Wheeling High School website, whs.d214.org.

This is the Wheeling Orchesis' major fundraiser and underwrites the cost of the group's guest artists. This year, Orchesis is proud to be hiring professional dance artists in the Chicago area that also are Wheeling Orchesis alumni: Kelly Maryanski, Jessica Kovarik, Jerry Rivera and Brittany Cederberg.

Through the history of the workshop, thousands of young dancers have graced the Sang Theatre stage from more than 20 communities. Many past participants continue in their high school dance programs.

Check-in for the workshop is at 12:30 p.m. in the Wheeling High School foyer. Cost is $30 per child and covers concert admission, a T-shirt and one adult concert ticket. Children will have a supervised snack break between the workshop and 4 p.m. performance.

Workshop choices are:

• Preschool (ages 3-5): Uses movement and action to make a story come to life.

• Ballet (grades K-fourth): A beginning study of this traditional dance form.
