Prepping for holiday cooking and hosting duties
For Thanksgiving, I like recipes that take a back-to-basics approach to the holiday. I'm all for keeping the whole production stress-free.
My approach to Thanksgiving, indeed every holiday, is less is more, simple can be beautiful and flavor tops all.
It's all about being grateful for what we have, not a day to ponder on things we don't have.
I hope you're able to enjoy the holiday, whether it's hectic or quiet, a large or small affair.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Good wine
If you're looking for the perfect wine to accompany your holiday feast, columnist Mary Ross offers a Ross' choice today that might be the one for you.
She recommends a sauvignon blanc from Los Vascos in the Casablanca Valley, Chile, that sounds like it would go with a whole host of Thanksgiving fare.
She says it's a great bargain to boot.
Northern Illinois Food Bank
Based in Geneva, the food bank has been named one of the winners of the 18th annual Chicago Innovation Awards. The organization's pilot program, My Pantry Express, is an online source for food when in need.
The program offers private online food shopping and local pick up at convenient locations and times to reach food-insecure individuals not currently accessing the charitable food network. Northern Illinois Food Bank is the first food bank to offer this service.
“This award is a wonderful recognition for our team and the work we're doing to serve our neighbors, which envisions a better way of working to solve hunger in our communities,” said Julie Yurko, president and CEO of Northern Illinois Food Bank. “Innovation and technology has the potential to solve so many of the world's challenges, and through MPX, we are able to not only provide nutritious groceries but dignity and respect for our neighbors.”
