Warren may sink Democrats in 2020

I fear an Elizabeth Warren candidacy will cost the Democrats the 2020 election. In my view, she pushes the needle too far to the left. Her candidacy will give President Trump, a master fearmonger, the opportunity to pin a socialist label on the Democratic ticket. This could set up an election where voters push aside their concerns about another four years of the most monumentally unfit president ever seen, hold their noses and vote for the Republican ticket because of a knee-jerk fear of electing a socialist. This isn't an argument about the good or evil of socialism. I'm merely suggesting that in our solidly capitalistic society, the term "socialist" has toxic negative connotations.

This leaves Joe Biden. There are other good Democratic candidates, of course, but none has Biden's name recognition or depth of experience. Admittedly, Biden has his faults. He is gaff prone and, after years of public service, probably has ample skeletons in his closet. Unlike the other contenders, however, Biden is not pushing sweeping social or constitutional change. He puts his faith squarely in our existing system.

In recent times, we've seen radical shifts to the right in the Republican Party. Now we're witnessing a reactionary shift to the left by many Dems. I doubt the majority of Americans occupying the middle space in the political spectrum have much appetite for either. After the wild ride of the Trump regime, most Americans want a return to stability and an end to rancor.

Polls show that Biden's somewhat milk-toasty candidacy offers the best odds of beating the clown president in 2020. It is clear that Trump sees this and fears a Biden-led ticket most, so much so that he's inadvertently placed his presidency on the line trying to find ways to discredit the man.
