Mundelein officials to finalize zoning rules for pot businesses

The Mundelein village board on Monday is expected to approve zoning regulations for businesses manufacturing, processing or selling marijuana for recreational users. The meeting is set for 7 p.m. at village hall, 300 Plaza Circle. Trustees in October directed administrators to draft zoning amendments for licensed marijuana businesses, which will be legal in Illinois as of Jan. 1. They subsequently asked the village's planing and zoning commission to amend local zoning rules so such businesses can operate in certain commercial, office and manufacturing districts. Starting Jan. 1, anyone 21 or older in Illinois can possess up to 30 grams of marijuana, 5 grams of cannabis concentrate and 500 milligrams of tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. Mundelein's lone medical marijuana retailer, The Clinic Mundelein, got a license for recreational sales this summer.
