Jon Callaghan Memorial Turkey Trot set for Thanksgiving in Gurnee

The Jon Callaghan Memorial Turkey Trot 5K run/walk will be held at 8 a.m. Thanksgiving, Nov. 28, beginning in the 4600 block of Old Grand Avenue in Gurnee.

The first Turkey Trot was organized in 1994 and later renamed for Callaghan, a student at what is now River Trail School in Gurnee, who died in 1997 from neuroblastoma cancer. Funds raised through the event have been used to help the Warren Township Food Pantry, University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital and school District 56 special needs programs.
