Carol Stream man pleads guilty to sexually abusing girl
A Carol Stream man pleaded guilty Thursday to aggravated criminal sexual abuse of an 11-year-old girl.
Pedro Sanchez-Cordero, 43, agreed to a sentence of three years in prison in exchange for the plea. He will receive credit for the 92 days he has spent in the DuPage County jail since his arrest in August.
According to the plea agreement, Sanchez-Cordero entered the girl's bedroom while she was asleep on Aug. 7 and inappropriately touched her over her clothing. Sanchez-Cordero was living with the girl's family at the time.
The girl woke up and alerted her parents.
When Judge Liam Brennan asked Sanchez-Cordero if he understood that by pleading guilty, he was giving up certain rights, including the right to a trial by jury, Sanchez-Cordero hesitated, and responded (via a Spanish-language interpreter) "I didn't do what the little girl is saying."
Brennan then asked if Sanchez-Cordero still wanted to plead guilty; Sanchez-Cordero responded "It is fine, yes."
