Elgin church to host talk on Republican contributions to fighting global climate change

On Sunday, Nov. 17, Steve Andersson will speak on the global climate change crisis in two addresses in Elgin.

The former Republican member of the Illinois House of Representatives will speak on "Beyond Denial: Republican Contributions to the Fight Against Global Climate Change" during a 9 a.m. address at First Congregational Church and a 3:30 p.m. program at Gail Borden Public Library.

"We are excited to have Steve speak with us on Sunday because this is a real opportunity to add different political perspectives on this common problem," said the Rev. Michael H. Montgomery, Ph.D., the church's interim senior minister. "Too often we get polarized between those who see the issue as one more reason to end capitalism and those who want to deny that the crisis exists at all. That helps no one, and it is important for us to begin working together."

Andersson's talk will be followed at a future date by a Democratic speaker.

First Congregational Church is located at 256 E. Chicago St. in Elgin. Gail Borden Public Library is located at 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin.
