Buffalo Grove Invites Community to Attend First Comprehensive Plan Workshop

The Village of Buffalo Grove is working to create a new comprehensive plan which will assist in developing a vision for the community over the next 20 years. The public is invited to participate in the first public workshop, which will take place Wednesday, November 13, 2019 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Aptakisic Junior High School, 1231 Weiland Road in Buffalo Grove.

A comprehensive plan outlines the long-term (15-20 year) vision of a community's desired physical environment, and covers issues such as future land use, development, transportation, housing, economic development, and natural resources. Buffalo Grove's plan will help to explore the question of what the Village should look like in 2040. Developing a vision can help to clarify what makes the community unique relative to its neighbors, and once established, the plan can provide a roadmap that details how the desired vision can be achieved.

The Buffalo Grove Comprehensive Plan will be developed over stages. The current stage is 'Existing Conditions', where design and planning firm RATIO will be collecting data and information to understand existing community dynamics.

Public engagement is a key part of this stage. The purpose of the first public meeting is to inform the public of the plan's scope and process, and to provide an opportunity for community members to share perspectives at various interactive stations.

Deputy Director of Community Development, Nicole Woods, is managing the project and encourages the public to attend. "Public engagement is a vital part of the project, and we invite all interested stakeholders to participate in this first workshop to share their thoughts and ideas on the future of the Village."

The Village's existing Comprehensive Plan was approved in 2009 and has reached the end of its shelf-life. A new modern plan can more accurately reflect current challenges, complexities, and opportunities in Buffalo Grove. An updated plan will also build off and tie together many of the community's past and current initiatives, including the Prairie View Metra Station Area Plan and the Lake Cook Corridor Market Study and Plan. The new comprehensive plan is expected to be complete by mid-2021.

This website will be routinely updated to announce public engagement activities, project updates and other related news.
