More than 225 veterans from Arlington Heights and surrounding areas attended the 9th annual Veterans Day Celebration and Breakfast in the Lutheran Home Chapel on Saturday.
"We invite veterans from anywhere to join us at this wonderful breakfast to celebrate their service to our nation, and to remember those who didn't come back," said Greg Padovani, chairman of the Veterans Memorial Committee of Arlington Heights.
The program included an Overview of Operation Wild Horse, a Soldier's Cross Ceremony by the color guard of American Legion Merle Guild Post 208, and a recognition of the 244th birthday of the United States Marine Corps.
Padovani said it's always important for the men and women who have served the country to hear "thank you for your service."
"Because people have to understand how much a person in the military sacrifices, to be away from their family, to be in harm's way, to be defending their nation," Padovani said. "Then they come home, and they're just regular again."
