Djurgården wins Swedish league for 1st time in 14 years
STOCKHOLM (AP) - Djurgården became Swedish soccer champion for the first time in 14 years after coming from two goals down to get the draw the team needed on a dramatic final day of the season.
The Stockholm-based team led Malmo and Hammarby by three points going into the 30th and last round of games but had an inferior goal difference.
So when Djurgården fell 2-0 behind at Norrkoping after 14 minutes and Malmo took the lead at Orebro, a late switch at the top of the standings was on.
However, Djurgården scored two goals in the opening 20 minutes of the second half, through Jesper Karlstrom and Mohamed Buya Turay, to pull level at 2-2 and Norrkoping had a player sent off in the 73rd minute to ease Djurgården's path to the title.
Malmo beat Orebro 5-0 and finished a point behind Djurgården in second place, ahead of Hammarby on goal difference.
One of Djurgården's most well-known players is midfielder Kevin Walker, who won Sweden's biggest reality talent show - Idol - in 2013 and is a pop singer in his spare time .
AFCˆ Eskilstuna andˆ Sundsvall both lost on the final day and were relegated.
