Take threat of coyotes seriously

I do enjoy a glimpse of nature provided by those talented Daily Herald readers and their captivating photographs. But the October 21 photo (family of coyotes) was of concern, especially the caption: "Got to hang out with the whole family (of coyotes) today. All six young ones play- fighting while mom and dad hunted."

Hunting for what I ask?

Recently a pack of coyotes were seen on the grounds of Thomas Middle School in Arlington Heights when school was in session and just the other day, my neighbor showed me a disturbing photo of a large coyote slowly crossing our street with a cat in its mouth. A domestic cat has been missing in our neighborhood for days.

The flippant attitude and naiveté seemingly communicated by the caption describing this photo is alarming. The coyote population is more prevalent than ever and so is the unspeakable harm they can cause to unattended small dogs, cats and, God forbid, little children/babies.

Grazing around Thomas Middle School is no joke. This past summer, I spotted one, from my front window, nonchalantly walking down Suffield Dr. off Windsor Dr. in Arlington Heights. Little children were playing on the other side of the street. As I ran out, I realized several parents were attending to the children. A scary moment for all.

I know Mr. And Mrs. Coyote and family are part of nature and the ecosystem. But they are hungry and they are wild. Please, Animal Control, keep us safe and please people be careful and use good sense. "Hanging Out" ... Maybe not.
