The Eye Centers of Racine & Kenosha Offers Latest Laser Vision Correction Technology

KENOSHA, WI | October 18, 2019 - The Eye Centers of Racine & Kenosha announced today that it is the first ophthalmology clinic within Wisconsin and Illinois to offer SMILE® minimally-invasive laser vision correction. With over 2,000,000 procedures performed worldwide year to date, SMILE is a proven procedure for treatment of myopia or nearsightedness. This revolutionary procedure is FDA approved to be performed in the U.S.*

Dr. R. Krishna Sanka performed the first SMILE with astigmatism procedure in Wisconsin on October 17, 2019 at 2:00pm Central Standard Time.

"At the Eye Centers of Racine and Kenosha, we take pride in being at the forefront of ophthalmic therapy and technology. We're fortunate to be able to offer forms of treatment that are only available in a few parts of the country, let alone Wisconsin and Illinois. In our practice, SMILE now becomes the latest way in which we can provide our patients with the quality of vision and life that everyone deserves to enjoy." - R. Krishna Sanka, M.D.

SMILE is the first minimally-invasive laser vision correction procedure available anywhere in the world. This revolutionary procedure developed by ZEISS utilizes the VisuMax® femtosecond laser to create a thin, contact-lens-shaped layer just beneath the surface of the eye and then a small opening through which that layer is removed, correcting the patient's vision. The VisuMax femtosecond laser, which is available at The Eye Centers of Racine & Kenosha, is the only laser that can currently perform the SMILE procedure.

The optical results of SMILE are brilliant and complications are few.

With this new treatment option, The Eye Centers of Racine & Kenosha are now offering patients access to the newest, most advanced refractive laser vision correction technology currently available.

Who can qualify for the SMILE for astigmatism procedure? Anyone that fits the criteria of any elective refractive eye procedure of healthy eyes other than farsightedness (hyperopia).

If you have an interest in finding out if you are a good candidate for this refractive procedure, please make an appointment for a complimentary consultation with The Eye Centers of Racine & Kenosha. Dr. Sanka, along with Dr. Inder Paul Singh, Dr. Stephen Pruett, Dr. Jeffrey Banas, and the surgical team will conduct tests to determine if you are a candidate for SMILE, or another laser eye correction procedure such as LASIK or PRK.

This is a surgical procedure and results may vary. Consult with your eye doctor who can best advise you if SMILE might be an option for you.

*FDA Approved Indications for Use:

For use in the reduction or elimination of myopia with or without astigmatism for spherical refractive error from -1.00D to -10.00D, for astigmatism from -0.75D through -3.00D, and when the MRSE is no greater than -10.0D in the eye to be treated. SMILE is indicated for patients who are 22 years of age or older with documentation of a stable manifest refraction over the past year as demonstrated by a change in the sphere and cylinder of less than or equal to .50D in magnitude.
