Elgin's Chapter of Hadassah to host annual luncheon Oct. 27

On Sunday, Oct. 27, Elgin's Chapter of Hadassah will hold its annual luncheon honoring donors at Villa Olivia, 1401 W. Lake St. in Bartlett.

The afternoon's program will include a presentation by a well-known Chicago-area endocrinologist Dr. George Motto titled "Diabetes Mellitus Through the Lens of Research." Elaine Silver, Hadassah Regional Associate and chair of the fundraising division, will provide an update on Hadassah's current efforts to renovate the "round building" at Hadassah Medical Center on Ein Kerem (near Jerusalem) via the "360 Degrees of Healing" campaign as well as other related news about Hadassah's medical research.

The noon luncheon will have baked salmon or pasta primavera on the menu. Cost is $39 per person.

Checks are to be made out to Hadassah and forwarded with a menu selection in order to secure a reservation. The name and address of the luncheon chairwoman can be obtained by contacting Nancy Zimmerman, Elgin Chapter board member, at (847) 828-6090.

Hadassah is an international women's Zionist organization that supports two innovative hospitals in Israel that hire doctors and nurses of varied ethnicities and that accept patients irrespective of ethnicity or religion. Hadassah also has a range of programming in the United States that encourages voter registration and participation on the national and local levels in the political process, opposition to human trafficking, promotion of gender-equality in medical research, and support of a woman's right to choose. Biennial national conventions disseminate Hadassah agenda items to chapters around the United States. Chapters and groups educate their members and associates about Hadassah within a social setting, often raising funds to advance renovations and purchase new equipment for their hospitals.
