Sweet treats at Elgin library part of culinary exhibit

Lots of people got their sweet tooth on at "Sugar & Butter: A Taste of Elgin" at the Gail Borden Public Library.

The Thursday afternoon event featured sweet samples from local eateries, including Al's Cafe, Arabica Cafe, Blue Box Cafe, Craft Donuts, Elgin Public House, Herb's Bakery, McAlister's Deli and Pastigel, along with the Elgin Police Department's "copsicle cart."

Ja'Niyah Batiest, 7, of Elgin, thoroughly enjoyed her chocolate malt from Al's Cafe. "I love chocolate. Anything chocolate - chocolate candy, chocolate cookies ... chocolate."

There was also a craft for kids and a butter-making demonstration from the Elgin History Museum.

It was all part of "Culinary Curiosity," a collaborative exhibit through Jan. 5 at the Elgin library, and at Arlington Heights Memorial Library, Aurora Public Library and Schaumburg Township District Library.

The exhibit includes culinary programs. Catherine De Orio, former host of the WTTW dining review show "Check, Please!" will discuss the exhibit from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave. The event will be livestreamed on Facebook. To learn more, visit culinarycuriositytourslibraries.com.
