Elk Grove Village Police Department Wins 1st Place at Illinois Traffic Safety Challenge

The Elk Grove Village Police Department won 1st Place at the 2019 Illinois Traffic Safety Challenge. The Police Department competed against other municipal police departments of a similar size from throughout the state, and was also awarded "Rookie of the Year" as this was the first year the Department participated in the challenge. The Traffic Division was recognized for their achievements at the Village Board meeting on October 22, 2019.

The Illinois Traffic Safety Challenge is a comprehensive traffic safety initiative in which police departments from throughout the state are judged in areas such as department training, review of policy and guidelines, public information and education, enforcement activity, and effectiveness of efforts. This initiative specifically focuses on occupant protection, distracted driving, speed, and impaired driving, which are the most common causes of traffic accidents. In addition to the awards, the Elk Grove Village Police Department received a Laser Technology Lidar and $5,000 in tuition for officer training at Northwestern University's Center for Public Safety.
