Wicked Burger Bash set for Oct. 26 in Palatine

Six burger masters will fight it out in a competition Saturday at City Limits Harley-Davidson in Palatine.

Wicked Burger Bash will run from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, outside the dealership at 2015 N. Rand Road. Neighboring Alley 64 Bar and Grill, which has the same owner as City Limits, received Palatine village council approval this week to sell beer at the event.

Darrin Klapprodt, who produces food videos for his "A Biker Dude" YouTube page, is the host and co-promoter of the Palatine burger throwdown. He said the six top burger chefs will compete for the right to face Greg Gaardbo, who, with wife Kristina, owns the popular Chicago Culinary Kitchen in Palatine.

Klapprodt said the chefs will be "putting their best burger before not only the judges, but the ticket holders." The plan is for the winner to face Gaardbo at City Limits in April, 2020.

Wicked Burger Bash's competitors will be from Alley 64, Rep's Place in Rolling Meadows, Burger Antics in Brookfield, The Assembly American Bar & Cafe in Hoffman Estates, Lodi Tap House in Maple Park and Frank's Original in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.

For $30, patrons will get to nosh on six burger samples and receive a drink ticket, raffle ticket and enjoy entertainment from a disc jockey. Klapprodt said he's helped stage similar burger throw-downs at Mikerphone Brewing in Elk Grove Village and Pollyanna Brewing Co.'s Roselle location.

Judges will declare a winner to face Gaardbo, but the competitors also can snag a People's Choice award as voted on by the crowd. Winners will be announced at 4:30 p.m.
