Who will be the next Little Miss and Little Mr. Aurora?

The City of Aurora is seeking the next youth ambassadors to wear the crowns as the 2020 Little Mr. Aurora and Little Miss Aurora.

As the current Little Miss Aurora Alaria Selmon and Little Mr. Aurora Benjamin Mendoza prepare to conclude their official duties, the nomination process is now open for their successors.

The contest is open to students in elementary school who live in Aurora and are comfortable in front of an audience.

Parents can complete an online nomination form at www.aurora-il.org/TheLittles.

Each nomination must include a video of the candidate addressing the topic: "Why I should be the next Little Mr. or Little Miss Aurora."

Videos of a minute or less can be submitted via the online application or emailed to MyAurora@aurora-il.org.

Videos can also be recorded at Aurora Community Television (ACTV) from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Oct. 28; 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29; and 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30.

ACTV is located at 5 E. Downer Place, Suite H on the first floor of the parking deck on Stolp Avenue and Downer Place.

The deadline to register is Tuesday, Nov. 5.

From the pool of nominations, a committee will select a group of finalists. Finalists will be announced to the public on Friday, Nov. 8.

All finalists will be on the official Winter Lights Court in the Winter Lights Parade.

The 2020 Little Mr. Aurora and Little Miss Aurora will be crowned from among the finalists in a special ceremony during the Aurora City Council meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at Aurora City Hall, 44 E. Downer Place.

The 2020 Little Mr. Aurora and Little Miss Aurora will lead the City of Aurora's Winter Lights Parade and assist in lighting Aurora's official Christmas tree during the Winter Lights celebration on Friday, Nov. 22 in downtown Aurora.

The young leaders will serve as ambassadors and represent the youth of Aurora at parades and community events throughout the year.
