Barrington to host Recycling Event Oct. 26

On Saturday, Oct. 26, the Village of Barrington will host a Document Destruction Event from 9 a.m. to noon at the Metra Lot at Wool Street and Klingenburg, Barrington.

Residents from Barrington and other SWANCC communities are eligible to participate. Materials will not be accepted from non-SWANCC residents, businesses, schools, or institutions, and IDs will be checked for verification of residency. Visit www.swancc.org/swancc-member-communities.

Workers will remove the paper documents while residents stay in their vehicles. Paper is cross-shredded on-site and will be recycled at a mill to make new paper products. Only sensitive documents are accepted, which can include medical forms, bank statements, personal files and retired tax forms.

There is a limit of six file boxes or paper bags per vehicle, and plastic and metal clips or binders must be removed.

Do not bring paper in plastic bags. Plastic is a contaminant, as are photos, slides and any non-paper item. Do not include magazines, greeting cards or newspapers, as these can be recycled curbside.

"SWANCC provides a variety of Special Material Programs to assist its residents with the task of recycling banned electronics and other materials that are potentially harmful or have recoverability, so they can be managed properly and made into new products when possible," said Mary Allen, SWANCC Recycling and Education director.

For information on SWANCC's recycling programs or other recycling information, contact the agency at (847) 724-9205 or visit swancc.org.
