Chicago Cougars jr. hockey returns home for two games Oct. 18-19

The Chicago Cougars (9-2-1) Junior Hockey team is off to a fast start to their fifth anniversary season remaining atop the standings of the U.S. Premier Hockey League Midwest East Division after winning the title the past two seasons. They are led by three-year captain and Geneva, Ill., native Breydon Hemminger. Alec Mahoney (Elgin, Ill.), Bret Bauer (St. Charles, Ill.), and Jasa Jenko (St. Charles, Ill.) also play key roles on this year's team.

This weekend, the Cougars return home for games Friday (8:10 p.m.) and Saturday (7:40 p.m.) after a three-week road trip for a pair of games against the Motor City Hockey Club (Detroit, Mich.) in what will be a classic weekend rivalry that will be used as fundraising for two special causes.

Friday night will be a Breast Cancer Awareness game. The Cougars will wear specialty pink jerseys which will be raffled off at the end of the night. There will also be other items for sale including pink the rink T-shirts, wristbands, etc. A local breast cancer survivor will be dropping the ceremonial puck pregame and proceeds will be donated to research in finding a cure.

On Saturday, the two teams will play a rematch of Friday to celebrate Matt Olson, the Cougars inaugural co-captain who was paralyzed in his last regular season junior hockey game in 2016. Olson was inducted to the Herb Brooks Youth Hockey Hall of Fame earlier this season and has remained a part of the organization even after his injury. The Cougars retired his No. 3 jersey during the 2016-17 season. Former Blackhawk Grant Mulvey will be in attendance and signing autographs during the first intermission along with other special guests. There will be a silent auction will Hawks tickets, gift bags, Patrick Kane signed jersey, and other novelty items which all proceeds will go directly to Olson to help with his ongoing medical costs.

Both games will be played at Canlan Ice Sports West Dundee, 801 Weseman Drive in West Dundee. For information, visit www.ChicagoCougarsHockey.com.
