Bartlett fire district honored for safety and prevention efforts

The Bartlett Fire Protection District was recently recognized for its fire safety and prevention efforts at the 79th Fire Prevention Week Luncheon hosted by the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance.

In addition to a strong social media presence, Bartlett conducts monthly "Meet the Firefighter" events, hosts many station tours that include children's activities and demonstrations, holds school poster contests, meets with local social clubs and community businesses, and is active in the Be Alarmed! Smoke Alarm Installation program.

The district has also strongly promoted a new national fire safety initiative, "Close Before You Doze," in which department members stress the importance of sleeping with bedroom doors closed to both children and adults.

Current Fire Chief William Gabrenya and recently retired Fire Chief Mike Falese accepted the honor at the group's Oct. 10 luncheon in Woodridge.
