Heritage Lake School unveils new Innovation Center

Kindergarten through fifth-grade students at Heritage Lakes School are experiencing improved learning opportunities this fall thanks to renovations that turned the former Library Learning Center into a new Innovation Center.

The revamped center in the school at 925 Woodhill Drive in Carol Stream features a cutting-edge design and modern features that make it a comfortable and contemporary learning space with a focus on providing more modern and relevant learning opportunities.

Heritage Lakes School opened in 1990, and since then the way students are taught has changed greatly, though the LLC had not been updated until now.

A committee of Heritage Lakes staff members, Carol Stream Elementary District 93 school board members and administrators, and the project's architect met numerous times to collaborate on the redesign.

After researching 21st-century learning spaces, the group created plans for what's been coined an Innovation Center.

The hub for learning, sharing, creating and innovating has features that are conducive to student learning and can accommodate an array of learning environments, depending on what's needed. The improvements include:

• Natural lighting from a skylight.

• Access to learning tools such as SMART Boards, green screens, 3-D printers and more.

• Shared tables for students to collaborate and learn.

• Comfortable, flexible and ergonomically correct seating.

• Warm colors and natural-looking floors.

• An open concept featuring movable seating and tables to accommodate any setup.

District 93 serves students in preschool through eighth grade from Carol Stream, Bloomingdale and Hanover Park in one Early Childhood Center, six elementary schools, and two middle schools.
